  2. It encrypts all incoming and outgoing data.
  3. NordVPN uses the technologies OpenVPN and Internet Key Exchange v2 / IPsec in its applications.

How can you use the Nordvpn?

  • You can use it on android and ISO devices.
  • Linux, and macOS, Windows desktop applications available.
  • If you are using google chrome or Firefox browsers can use its extension.

 Is Nordvpn legal in UAE?

Before I give you the answer “Yes” or “No” let me the explaining here what is the UAE law has stated. The UAE government passed a cybercrime regulation in 2012, there are many restrictions that have been imposed on the internet to protect the country from the information technology crime.

However, the amended federal law No 12, 2016 has made clear that residents of UAE and business using the VPN to go online is a crime. Articles 1, cybercrime law 2016 has defined the punishment as following;

  • Any person who bypasses the Internet protocol address by using a delusive address for the purpose of committing or preventing the discovery of a crime shall be punished by imprisonment or
  • fine, not less than (AED 150.000) and not more than (AED 500.000) or any of these penalties.
  • Anyone who did the crime by using the VPN punishment will increase from the primary ranges and The new fine will be  AED500,000 AED2,000,000.

The cybercrime law in the UAE is very strict and does not allow individuals and businesses to connect VPN to their network, but, the banks, financial institutions, and the other organization use the VPN to secure their privacy. The Etisalat and Du also allow the organization to integrate the VPN devices in the local connection.

Not only the organizations but also the UAE residents who use the VPN, the number is enormous. Although the number of VPN users in the country is high, no action has been taken unless they fall into the crime.

You might already get my answer to your question of whether Nordvpn is legal or illegal in the UAE.

The cybercrime law has not granted any special privileges to the Nordvpn and it users but you can use it without manipulating the VPN services for malicious activities.

  • manipulating internet protocols with the intent to commit any fraud or crime is illegal
  • Accessing the nefarious content likely to damage the community eg. recruitment videos for terrorist groups will bring severe consequences.
  •  accessing foreign TV series that are not yet available in the UAE eg. the latest series of Game of Thrones is aslo punishable.
  • Using the VPN for calling apps such as Skype, Viber, and others apps will not stipulate cybercrime. Although the law has not mentioned these activities can tolerate.

Compensation for Occupational Injuries in UAE: What Every Employee Should Know

The UAE Labour Law has clearly outlined the compensation for occupational injuries in UAE under Chapter 8, Articles 142 to 153.

These articles describe the legal process and rights of employees who suffer a work-related injury in the UAE or occupational disease during their employment.

Understanding the law helps both employers and workers act properly in case of accidents or occupational diseases. Here’s a detailed explanation of how Workmen’s compensation UAE labour law protects workers in such situations.

1. Reporting a Work-Related Injury in UAE

If an employee suffers an occupational injury or disease, the employer or their representative must immediately report the case to the police or the labour department in the jurisdiction where the company is located.

The report should include:

  • Name, age, nationality, and occupation of the injured worker
  • Address and type of accident
  • Details of first aid or medical treatment provided

When medical report submit the police conduct an investigation and collect statements from the employer, witnesses, and the injured employee (if possible).

The police report is then sent to the Labour Department, with copies for the employer. The police will determine whether the incident was accidental or caused by employee misconduct, such as being under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

2. Medical Treatment and Salary Entitlement

Under the Workmen’s compensation UAE Labour Law, the employer is responsible for all medical expenses.

This includes treatment in private or government hospitals, surgeries, x-rays, diagnostic tests, medicines, and rehabilitation equipment such as artificial limbs or prosthetics if required.

If the injured worker is hospitalized and unable to go to the bank, the employer must pay the salary in cash. The law grants:

  • Full pay for up to six months, and
  • Half pay until recovery, permanent disability, or death

The cash allowance is calculated based on the worker’s basic salary.

3. Compensation for Permanent Disability or Death

After treatment, the attending doctor issues a report detailing the nature of the injury, treatment period, follow-up dates, and whether the worker is cured, partially disabled, or permanently disabled.

If the work-related injury in UAE results in death, the worker’s family is entitled to compensation equal to 24 months of the worker’s last basic salary, subject to the following limits:

  • Minimum compensation: 18 months of basic salary
  • Maximum compensation: AED 35,000

For example, if the worker’s last basic salary was AED 1,000, the family receives AED 24,000 as compensation (1,000 × 24 months).

4. Who Receives the Compensation?

The following dependents of the deceased worker are eligible for compensation for occupational injuries in UAE:

  • Widow or widower
  • Children (sons under 17, or up to 24 if studying)
  • Unmarried daughters or dependent daughters-in-law

The compensation is distributed among family members wholly or substantially dependent on the deceased worker’s income at the time of death.

5. Partial or Total Disability Compensation

If a work-related injury in UAE leads to permanent partial disability, the compensation amount depends on the severity and percentage of disability.

A worker who is permanently and totally disabled receives the same compensation as a deceased worker — the equivalent of 24 months’ basic salary.

6. Conditions Where Compensation Is Not Granted

Under the UAE Labour Law, employers are not required to pay compensation in the following situations:

  • If the injury was self-inflicted or an attempted suicide
  • If the worker was under the influence of drugs or alcohol during the accident
  • If the worker intentionally violated safety instructions
  • If the worker refused medical examination or treatment without a valid reason

In such cases, the employer is not obligated to cover treatment expenses or pay any cash allowance.

7. Handling Disputes Regarding Workmen’s Compensation

Disputes may arise regarding the degree of disability or fitness for duty. If this happens, the case is referred to the MOHRE (Ministry of Human Resources and Emiritisation) and Ministry of Health.

A medical board of three government officers will assess the worker’s medical condition, degree of disability, and other injury-related issues. Their decision is final and binding and will be sent to the Labour Department for enforcement.

8. Coverage of Workmen’s Compensation in UAE

The Workmen’s compensation UAE Labour Law covers:

  • Accidents occurring at the workplace, and
  • During travel between accommodation and the place of work

Most UAE companies have insurance policies covering occupational injuries and diseases. If any unfortunate incident affects a worker’s health or life, the insurance provider compensates the employee or family, though the process might take time.

Conclusion

The compensation for occupational injuries in UAE ensures that workers and their families receive fair financial and medical support after a workplace accident or occupational disease.

The Workmen’s compensation UAE Labour Law is designed to safeguard employees’ rights and ensure that employers fulfill their responsibilities toward workplace safety and welfare.

By understanding the provisions related to work-related injury in UAE, employees can protect their rights and take timely action in case of any unfortunate event.

Sick Leave UAE – Complete Guide Under the UAE Labour Law

Most of the labor-related cases in the United Arab Emirates are governed by Federal Law No. 8 of 1980, also known as the Regulation of Labour Relations. According to this law, every employee has the right to take sick leave in UAE if he or she cannot perform duties due to illness.

UAE Labour Law Sick Leave Provision

Article 82

If a worker becomes sick, he or she must inform the employer within two days of the illness. After that, the employer is responsible for taking the employee to a hospital or clinic to verify the illness and provide treatment.

Article 83

This article explains when an employee is entitled to sick leave in UAE and when not.

  • Employees are not entitled to sick leave during the probation period.
  • The probation period lasts six months from the date of joining.
  • After completing probation, employees are entitled to a maximum of 90 days of sick leave per year, as follows:
    • First 15 days: Full pay.
    • Next 30 days: Half pay.
    • Remaining 45 days: Without pay.

Sick leave in the UAE cannot exceed 90 days in a year under any circumstances.

Article 84

An employee will not receive any pay if the illness is caused by personal misconduct such as:

  • Illness resulting from alcohol consumption, or
  • Sickness due to the use of narcotic drugs.

Article 85 – Contract Termination by Employer

If an employee does not return to work after 90 days of sick leave, the employer has the legal right to terminate the contract. However, the company must still pay end-of-service benefits according to UAE Labour Law.

Article 86 – Contract Termination by Employee

If an employee resigns during illness (within 45 days of leave), and the doctor confirms that the illness prevents work, the employer must accept the resignation. In this case, the worker will receive wages for the remaining period of the first 45 days.

How Sick Leave Works in UAE Companies

When an employee becomes ill, they should inform their supervisor or manager immediately.

  • Some companies send transportation to take the employee to the hospital.
  • Others may ask the worker to visit a doctor on their own.

After the medical check-up, the doctor issues a sick leave certificate that mentions the number of rest days required. When the employee returns to work, they must submit this certificate to HR.

According to the law:

  • First 15 days: Full salary.
  • Next 30 days: Half salary.
  • After 45 days: No salary, up to a maximum of 90 days.

If an employer refuses to pay according to the Labour Law, employees have the right to file a complaint with MOHRE (Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation).
If the issue is not resolved through discussion, the case can move to the labour court, although that process can take a long time.

Sick Leave Without Medical Certificate UAE

Yes, it is possible to take sick leave without a medical certificate in UAE for short periods.
Some companies allow employees to take 1 or 2 days of sick leave without submitting a doctor’s certificate, especially if the worker is suffering from a mild illness like fever or a headache. However, if the leave continues for more than two days, the medical certificate becomes mandatory.

Important Note

The sick leave UAE rules mentioned above apply only to non-work-related illnesses.
If you suffer an injury or disease caused by your work, other Labour Law articles will apply — usually those related to occupational injuries and compensation.

Conclusion

The Labour Law protects both employees and employers by maintaining a fair system for sick leave. Whether you are sick or not, you must understand your labour rights under sick leave UAE.

Most companies follow the law and pay employees correctly, but when recovery takes longer, some try to avoid payment. In that case, workers can seek help from MOHRE to ensure justice.

Knowing your rights about sick leave UAE and sick leave without a medical certificate UAE helps you stay protected and make informed decisions while working in the country.
