Workplace safety means to create a safe environment for work in the organization. No matter the types of company business and the size of the organization.
Keeping employees safe in the work site is another important part of the security guard’s duty. Workplace accident presents a serious threat to the employees’ life or potential injury which represents a loss of productivity and profit instability.
Knowing the danger zones of your site. You can prevent the accident that can threaten the life of the employees and the public. Your duty may include warning the public and employees about the potential danger zone in your site. Hence, you should exercise a helpful and observant role in the interest of others.
If the risk level is higher you may require to escort to the employees, visitors, vendors and the general public to that area and remain until they out of there. A workplace accident can occur in a split of time but cause for a lifetime.
So, it is a good idea for the security guard to inspect the area to keep the checklist up to date all the time. Fully depending on the checklist does not help you to prevent a workplace accident. That’s the reason to use your own common sense while patrolling and inspecting the area is important.
Hazardous materials are the main cause of workplace accidents so, you should know your site. And search for safety hazards while performing the duty. Safety hazards can be anything in your work finding it in time, help to reduce the accident.

Every company has a workplace safety plan to follow the security guard including the employees. Although different types of accident require a different kind of action here are some important point to remember your activity on the accident.
In the event of an accident, the security guard may be responsible for:
- The orderly evacuation of the workplace
- The securing of the accident site for the police and workers compensation investigators
- The preservation of any evidence that is likely to disappear before the investigators arrive
Your post-order may determine the workplace safety procedure of a particular company where you are guarding. So, you should know your post or site order to handle the situation in case of an emergency.
Although accidents may happen without declaring anything, you should have your own plan for dealing with a possible emergency situation.
Trough the advance preparation and set up a plan of action, destruction, and loss of life may prevent or at least kept in minimum level. A good security guard not only has the knowledge of a response plan according to the site order but also suggest for change or modify if it is needed.
Guards should have a good knowledge of all response procedures, whether they concern a fire, bomb threat, or some other emergency situation that pose a risk to life or to property.
